Why Choose
ProtectGuard®?

Why Choose
ProtectGuard®?

ProtectGuard® – Natural Look Sealer

ProtectGuard® is a natural look sealer that delivers outstanding protection to all types of porous materials. It is an eco, water based stone sealer that repels water, oils, stains and even graffiti. It comes with a 10 year guarantee and has been proven effective for over 20 years in some cases. It is currently protecting iconic structures all over the world such as Bernini’s Columns at St Peters Square at the Vatican, and the Louvre in Paris. ProtectGuard is the stone protection product of choice.

ProtectGuard® helps tackle the deterioration caused by smog, greasy stains, and penetration of liquids.  Treated surfaces will benefit from an increased life-span and will be easier to clean.  Due to it’s high water repellency and vapour breathability, it keeps porous materials dry. This stops mould and mildew growth. And will be difficult for lichens and moss to become established. Your materials will stay healthy and clean.

ProtectGuard® works by stopping stains from soaking into the substrate. It repels all kinds of liquids keeping them above the surface. They can then be easily cleaned off. Surfaces are much easier to keep clean when they are protected with this stone sealer. It even stops chewing gum from sticking to the surface, and allows for easy, residue free removal.

ProtectGuard® is also an anti graffiti coating! It stops paint and ink from soaking into the pores of the material. It can then easily be removed from the surface with Guard Remover Graffiti 2030. Guard Industry have developed this safe eco cleaner specifically for use with ProtectGuard®. It will safely remove the graffiti without damaging the ProtectGuard. The seal remains intact for ongoing protection. This is a very safe and effective means of controlling and managing graffiti. No other natural look sealer that can do that! Except perhaps, ProtectGuard HD

ProtectGuard® is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. It is designed for use on all types of porous building materials. Use with confidence on:

  • concrete
  • cement
  • plasters
  • natural and synthetic stone
  • terracotta
  • paving and more…

ProtectGuard® lets Materials Breathe

ProtectGuard® does not product a surface film. This full penetrating sealer leaves the treated surface permeable to air and water vapour. This enables any moisture trapped in the material to escape. This is important for most outdoor sealing applications. Water always seems to get in somehow! There are a few applications where moisture issues are very common. These include:

  • retaining walls.
  • low or below grade floors.
  • water features.
  • paving around pools.

ProtectGuard® is completely invisible after application. So it does not change the look or the texture of the treated surface. It is UV and frost resistant and does not change colour with age. Its also non slip! Since it does not produce a surface film it will not alter the natural grip levels of the material. As such, full penetrating sealers should always be used in areas where slips need to be minimised.

Looking For Something Else?
There is a Protect Guard
® Sealer for Every Application

ProtectGuard® stone sealer is designed for use on high to medium porosity materials. It is ideal for materials like: concrete, plaster, terracotta and limestone. But if this isn’t what you are after, don’t despair! There is a Protect Guard Sealer to suit every application.

For high traffic applications consider ProtectGuard® HD. For very dense materials check out ProtectGuard® MG Eco. Its also food contact compliant! Or if you are after colour enhancement check out ProtectGuard® WF Premium wet look sealer.

A water droplet test is a handy way to check the porosity of your material. This is a good place to start when deciding which ProtectGuard® sealer is right for your application. Simply put a drop of water on the surface you want to seal. Time how long it takes for the droplet to soak in. Then check it against our selection chart.

How to Apply
ProtectGuard®

How to Apply
ProtectGuard®

Preparation

Application

    • Use the product in its pure form: do not dilute it. Shake the packaging well before use and carry out a preliminary test.
    • The material must be impregnated up to saturation in a single coat or two coats”wet on wet”.
    • Do not overload the material, remove any excess before drying.
    • On vertical materials, apply from bottom to top
    • Protected drying: 24 hours.
    • Optimal efficiency reached after 7 days.

Uses

    • Porous materials: natural or reconstituted stone, concrete, terracotta, coating, etc.
    • Floors and facades
    • New or old
    • Internal or external
    • Recommended for patios, drives, pool surround areas, walls, gables, tiling joints, etc.

Indicative Coverage

    • 1-5m2/Litre
    • Coverage will vary depending on the porosity of the surface.

Tools Required

    • Low pressure sprayer, roller or brush

Frequently
Asked Questions

Most porous surfaces including stone, concrete, brick, pavers and tiles. We recommend testing a small area first on unusual surfaces.

It depends on porosity. A simple water drop test will help:

  • If water soaks in within 1 minute, standard ProtectGuard® is suitable
  • If it takes longer than 1 minute, use ProtectGuard® HD
  • If it takes longer than 2 minutes, use ProtectGuard® MG

ProtectGuard® MG works on all porosity levels, but may be less economical on very porous materials.

Pour water on the surface. If it beads and rolls off, the sealer is still working. If water soaks in and darkens the surface, it is time to reseal. With ProtectGuard, new sealer can be applied directly over the old.

No. Penetrating sealers need to absorb into the raw surface. To check if your surface is still sealed, drip water on it. If it beads immediately, the old sealer needs to be removed first.

Generally no. ProtectGuard® is a water and oil repellent sealer, so it will prevent proper adhesion of coatings like epoxy or polyurethane.

If recoating is required, the surface must be treated with Guard Remover Eco to deactivate the repellent properties first.

Yes. It is suitable for brick and masonry and is commonly used on chimneys and external walls. When applied to saturation, it can provide long-term protection while maintaining a natural finish.

Top recommendations: ProtectGuard® MG (full penetrating, 10-year life, natural look), ProtectGuard® Plant Based Formula (protects against acids, wine and coffee, adds strength), ProtectGuard® CE (good all-round choice).

Not completely, but it should be as dry as practical. The product can tolerate damp surfaces, but if pores are filled with water, penetration will be reduced and performance may be affected. For best results, apply when the surface appears visually dry.

Once the surface is visibly dry and has returned to its natural appearance, it is safe to walk on.

For standard clay bricks and pavers expect around 6-8m2 per litre. More dense surfaces go further. Apply to the point of saturation on first coat, then a second coat once the first has dried.

No. It is a penetrating sealer and requires a porous surface to be effective.

Yes. For vertical surfaces, a garden sprayer or airless sprayer is recommended. Apply from bottom to top to avoid streaking. Apply to saturation, and on very porous materials use a second wet-on-wet pass before the first coat dries.

For relatively smooth surfaces like standard brick pavers, a 15mm nap is typically suitable. ProtectGuard® is also easy to apply with a garden sprayer due to its low viscosity.
