An Environmentally Responsible Bio-Sourced Product

For more than 30 years Guard Industry has been the leader in the manufacture of environmentally responsible sealing products. Our goal is to seamlessly protect and enhance the beauty of natural materials without doing any harm to the natural or built environment. 

The polymers used in conventional sealers are synthesised from fossil fuels. However, ProtectGuard® Plant-Based Formula is a bio-sourced product derived from raw biomass. It has been specifically formulated from ingredients of plant origin (corn, beetroot, tree resin).

The use of responsibly sourced, renewable, plant based raw materials provides a significant benefit to the environment and facilitates long term sustainability.

A Non-Slip Sealer

Most Guard Industry sealers are full penetrating products that do not alter the natural grip of the materials to which they are applied.

 ProtectGuard® Plant Based Sealer goes a step further and can actually improve slip ratings. A single application can improve wet pendulum slip test results by as much as 20 points!

The actual slip rating of any surface will depend on several factors so we cannot guarantee that our ProtectGuard® Plant-Based Sealer will make all surfaces non slip. However, if your surface is a few points shy of achieving a specific slip rating, then this sealer might get you across the line.

If using this sealer specifically to increase slip ratings, we recommend doing tests in a small area to confirm suitability before treating the whole area.  

An Acid Resistant Sealer

All the products in the ProtectGuard range will provide protection against water, oils and staining. However, most of them provide only limited protection against strong acids. In most cases this isn’t a problem, since strong acids are rarely encountered in the majority of domestic and public applications. However, some types of materials are especially sensitive to acids and can be etched if exposed for extended periods. Most lime-based materials fit into this category. Acids will dissolve the carbonates in these materials to form a permanent etch mark. Etching is difficult to repair and often requires re-polishing of the surface.

Protects lime-based materials against acids

Common lime based materials include include limestone, travertine, marble, concrete, and plaster. The other products in the range will protect these materials against mildly acidic spills but not against the more commonly encountered medium to strongly acidic food products, like strong vinegars, high acidity wines, or lemon juice. However, ProtectGuard® Plant-Based sealer provides excellent protection against acids.  It also provides better resistance against chemicals such as bleach and most other household cleaning products.

ProtectGuard® Plant Based Formula is a High Performance Sealer

ProtectGuard® Plant Based sealer is suitable for sealing most* porous materials. It provides outstanding stain protection, a high level of abrasion and UV resistance and very low water permeability.

*ProtectGuard® Plant Based sealer cannot penetrate into very low porosity materials. Extremely dense, low porosity materials like crystalised marble and highly densified terazzo and concrete we recommend using ProtectGuard MG.

Preparation

• • Apply the product to a clean, dust-free, grease-free and dry surface.
  • To remove stains and traces of pollution use Guard Cleaner® Facades or Guard Wash® Express.
  • To remove grease stains, use Guard Cleaner® Eco – Soiled floors or Net’Guard® Ultra 4 in 1.
  • To remove traces of efflorescence, laitance or grout film use Guard Remover® Eco Efflorescence & Cement.
  • Rinse carefully until the surface is free of any trace of cleaner.

Application

• • Use the product in its pure form: do not dilute it.
  • Shake well before use and perform a preliminary test to check that the product has correctly penetrated and that the appearance after drying matches expectations.
  • The material must be impregnated up to saturation in a single coat.
  • On very porous materials, apply a second coat after 15 minutes.
  • Do not spray the product, apply with a roller or a brush.
  • On vertical surfaces, always apply from bottom to top.
  • In some cases, product can leave white marks on the surface after application. Marks will disappear after complete drying.
  • Do not overload the material, remove any excess before drying.
  • Protected drying: 24 hours.
  • Optimum efficiency reached after 7 days.
