Protect, Enhance and Preserve Your Concrete

Find the Right Sealer for Your Concrete

Concrete is strong, versatile and durable, but without the right protection it can be vulnerable to staining, moisture, wear, dusting, erosion and surface deterioration.

At WA Sealers, we offer high-performance concrete sealers for everything from decorative driveways and exposed aggregate to polished concrete floors, concrete resurfacing and high-traffic commercial surfaces.

Our range includes penetrating nano sealers, colour-enhancing sealers, natural-look protection and wet-look finishes, allowing you to choose the right level of protection and appearance for your concrete.

Many of our concrete sealers are breathable and penetrate into the concrete rather than simply forming a film on the surface. This helps reduce the risk of peeling, blistering and delamination while providing long-lasting protection from within.

concrete sealer

Concrete is porous, so an unsealed floor can absorb water, oil, dirt and other contaminants. Sealing helps protect the concrete while making it easier to clean and maintain.

The right sealer depends heavily on what type of concrete you have and where the floor is being used. WA Sealers has several systems designed for different concrete surfaces and environments.

Further below you can explore the different types of concrete floors and discover the recommended sealers for each application.

A good concrete sealer can help:

  • Protect against staining from oil, dirt and everyday spills
  • Reduce water penetration while allowing the concrete to breathe
  • Improve the appearance of coloured, exposed aggregate and polished concrete
  • Enhance colour and aggregate where a more pronounced appearance is desired
  • Reduce dusting on suitable concrete surfaces
  • Improve durability and surface quality
  • Make cleaning and maintenance easier
  • Provide protection from UV exposure and Australian weather conditions
  • Help protect new concrete during the early curing period

Pro Seal 896 and Pro Seal 898 can be applied to new concrete once the surface is hard enough to walk on, helping protect the concrete from the early stages of its life. Rather than simply allowing moisture to evaporate quickly from the surface, its Moisture Retention Technology (MRT) helps slow moisture loss during the curing process.

Concrete cures through hydration, where cement reacts with water to develop strength. By retaining moisture for longer while still allowing the concrete to breathe, Pro Seal 896 gives this process more time to occur, helping the concrete develop its strength and durability.

Early application can also help reduce dry shrinkage and surface cracking, while providing stain and surface protection from day one. This makes Pro Seal 896 a practical option for protecting new concrete while also assisting its curing process.

Internal floors may be exposed to:

  • Foot traffic
  • Dirt
  • Food and drink spills
  • Oils and grease
  • Acids like vinegar, lemon juice, etc.
  • Cleaning chemicals
  • Furniture movement
  • Heavy commercial traffic

For indoor applications, the Pro Seal Range is particularly attractive because it provides protection against all the above. They are low-VOC/non-toxic and suitable for internal floors.  This range of products can also be buffed and polished.

Outdoor concrete is exposed to UV, rain, temperature changes, moisture, dirt, stains and heavy traffic, making durability, breathability and slip resistance important considerations.

  • Pool surrounds: Choose a breathable, non-film-forming sealer that helps maintain the natural grip of the concrete, such as ProtectGuard HD.
  • Driveways & vehicle areas: These surfaces need protection from tyres, oil, dirt, fuel, UV and repeated wet/dry cycles. ProSeal 898 provides good all-round protection.
  • General outdoor areas: A breathable sealer allows moisture to escape from the concrete, helping reduce problems associated with trapped moisture such as peeling and delamination.

One of the most important considerations when sealing concrete is moisture movement.

Concrete can contain or receive moisture from below. If a sealer creates an impermeable surface film, moisture can become trapped beneath it.

This can contribute to:

  • Blistering
  • Peeling
  • Delamination
  • Discolouration
  • Efflorescence

WA Sealers therefore places considerable emphasis on breathable penetrating sealers, particularly for outdoor concrete.

concrete sealer

Concrete walls, facades and architectural buildings are exposed to:

  • Rain and moisture
  • UV and weathering
  • Pollution and atmospheric contaminants
  • Dirt and staining

A suitable penetrating sealer helps protect the concrete from moisture and environmental damage while allowing it to breathe. Unlike a heavy surface coating, it can provide protection while maintaining the natural appearance and texture of the concrete.

A suitable penetrating sealer can help:

  • Reduce water and moisture penetration
  • Protect against oil, dirt and atmospheric pollution
  • Reduce efflorescence, moss and lichen growth
  • Protect against chloride ingress and carbonation
  • Reduce deterioration and help extend the life of the concrete
  • Provide anti-graffiti protection
  • Make surfaces easier to clean and maintain
  • Maintain the natural look and texture of the concrete
  • Allow the concrete to breathe, reducing the risk of peeling or delamination

concrete sealer

Concrete furniture and decorative items such as plant pots, candle holders, tables, benches and planters are porous and can absorb water, oils, wax and stains. Sealing helps protect the surface while making it easier to clean and maintain.

A suitable sealer can help provide:

  • Water and stain resistance
  • Protection from oil, dirt and spills
  • Reduced absorption and easier cleaning
  • Protection from weathering and UV exposure for outdoor pieces
  • Protection against acid etching
  • A more durable, longer-lasting surface
  • Colour enhancement where desired

The best product depends on the porosity of the concrete, whether the item is indoors or outdoors, and the finish you want.

For items such as plant pots, candle holders and decorative concrete pieces, a natural penetrating sealer is generally preferable where you want to retain the authentic look and feel of the concrete. For pieces where colour enhancement or a wet-look finish is desired, ProtectGuard WF Premium may be more suitable.

Important: For items that will come into direct contact with food, drinks or cooking surfaces, check the product's specific suitability before application.

A good option for porous concrete furniture and decorative pieces is Pro Seal 896, particularly where you want natural-looking protection without a heavy coating.

It provides:

  • Penetrating protection
  • Water and stain resistance

  • A natural to subtle satin appearance

It can be particularly useful for concrete planters and outdoor furniture, where allowing moisture to escape is important.

For dense or highly finished concrete furniture, Pro Seal 898 can be considered where a more refined or higher-gloss appearance is wanted.

It is particularly suited to dense concrete surfaces, providing protection without relying on a thick surface coating.

If you want to enhance the colour of the concrete and create a wet-look finish, ProtectGuard WF Premium is your best option.

It provides:

  • Wet-look colour enhancement
  • Water and stain protection
  • Breathable protection
  • A non-film-forming finish
  • Suitability for both indoor and outdoor applications

Concrete furniture is naturally porous and can absorb oil, food, drinks, wax and other spills, leaving difficult-to-remove stains.

Sealing helps reduce absorption, giving you more time to wipe up spills and making the surface easier to clean and maintain, while helping preserve the natural appearance of the concrete.

Concrete by Type

Concrete comes in many different finishes, each with its own appearance, porosity and protection requirements. From exposed aggregate and decorative concrete to polished, honed and burnished finishes, choosing the right sealer is essential to protect the surface while achieving the desired look and performance.

Below you can find recommended sealers for the following types of concrete:

Polished Concrete

polished concrete sealer

Polished concrete is a dense, smooth concrete surface that has been densified and mechanically polished to create a hard, refined finish. Such surfaces have very low porosity so selecting sealers which can penetrate into dense materials is essential.

Recommended products:

  • ProtectGuard CE – is the best in class natural look sealer for concrete. Penetrates into even the most highly densified concrete. Does not repel itself so is very easy to reapply.
  • ProtectGuard HD – water based natural look alternative for less densified floors. Extremely low VOC's.
  • ProtectGuard WF Premium – where a colour enhanced finish is required.
  • Pro Seal 898 – get a polished look without densifying or lots of mechanical polishing. Provides physical protection and acid resistance.

All the above sealers repel water and oils.

Exposed Aggregate

exposed aggregate concrete sealer

Exposed aggregate is a porous concrete surface where decorative stone is exposed at the surface. Sealers must be suitable for the different properties of the stone and mortar. In vehicle applications having a sealer which helps to lock in the stone is also important.

Recommended products:

  • Pro Seal 896 – the main recommended sealer for exposed aggregate, providing stain protection while maintaining breathability. Best option for foot traffic.
  • Pro Seal 898 – sets harder and has less flex than ProSeal 896. Best for vehicle traffic and high wear applications.
  • ProtectGuard WF Premium – colour enhancement with water and oil protection.
  • ProtectGuard HD – Natural look sealer that repels water, oils and stains without altering look or grip. Suitable for high traffic applications, and areas subject to frequent cleaning.
Honed Concrete

honed concrete sealer

Honed concrete has a smooth, refined surface created by mechanically grinding the concrete. Its porosity can vary depending on how heavily it has been honed, so the sealer should be matched to the density and desired finish of the surface.
